Elise Karnegis has recently joined the staff at the Center for Family and Child Enrichment. She is a Registered Dietitian with over thirty years of clinical experience and also a Diabetes Educator with training at the Joslin Center in Boston.

Knowledge is an important weapon against the complications of diabetes. Learning what to eat, testing blood sugars, taking diabetes medication, and treating low and high blood sugars  correctly are all important factors in preventing diabetes complications. Having an A1C of over 6.5% puts a person at risk. Here at the Center, we now are offering a class in diabetes management.  In addition, we also have appointments  to see the Dietitian/Diabetes Educator for individualized counseling.

Another area where knowledge is important is in our Pediatric population. 1-2 American children have a chronic illness. The “new childhood epidemics” are autism, ADHD/ADD, asthma, allergies, etc. Many parents are unaware that good nutrition can make a huge difference in their kids’ lives; sometimes even getting off their medications. The Center is now offering a basic class for ADHD/Anxiety and nutrition and/or individualized counseling.
